THE DAD SAGA CONTINUES...
Well, for those of you who already saw the original post from a little while ago, you won't believe this next installment in the soap opera that is my dad trying to help some kids...

Can you BELIEVE that??? How heartless can bureaucracy be when it treats people like this, no matter HOW many nice people try to help them???

*sigh*

My dad tells me that there's one more article coming, but hasn't told me what it is yet -- he's keeing us in suspense.

God, but I hope that it'll be a happy ending for Veronique Gariepy. She's really a sweet girl, she's had one helluva tough life, and she deserves a break.

And my dad? He's been spoiling them rotten, and I'm so happy he is... he brought them bowling the other week, and to a movie another time, and so on... he's SUCH an incredible fellah.

God, but how I hope that some people who are reading these newspaper articles in Dieppe will protest the school board's idiotic decision.

Go dad. I'm rootin' for ya. Big time.

[EDIT: fixed the second half of the news article so you don't see the same image twice]

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You're father is one of the cool ones of the world (no pun intended).

Speaking as a child who lived barely within the busing limit (we walked 1/8 of a mile OUT to get to the bus stop) I understand the feeling. Even though it was Hawaii, in moderate temperature, going out there all by yourself and coming back is scary. It was either that, however, or walk right along one of the busiest streets in town (with no sidewalk) the almost 2 miles from home to middle school. I hope there is a happy ending to this.

yep.

And the fact that the kids are 7 and *5* is what kills me.

Now that I've added the rest of the article, read it, and you'll see that the story gets worse. It's SOOOO unfair!

You're right, that's awful! So that's how good deeds are rewarded in this world? *shakes an angry fist at the gods of irony*

Still, I have to say that I'm not very impressed with this neighbor. If he can drive his own kid to school, how hard is it to help by taking two other kids?

Have I mentioned that your dad is cool? ^_^

I've been wondering about that, too, actually. I'm hoping that maybe he IS helping out, or that someone else is helping out right now...

Knowing me dad, he'll prolly start bringing them to school soon if no one else does.

Me too. We should go out for a beer. Of course, none of us live anywhere near each other ...

One day, though! When one of us wins the lottery and can afford to get all the rest of us together in some bar! ^_^

A "Damonk's Live Journal-con" in Canada, with the three of us.
In about 15 days I can legally drink there.

Your dad's really cool Frank. Its amazing how universal school board burracracy is.

The superintendent was not available for comment. Ha! Not surprising.

I hope that there can be a solution for these kids. It's a crime to make them walk thatr far in freezing temperatures, especially with a baby in tow!

Your dad sounds like a real prince, Frank.

Oh, and by the way: I resent having to click on a link that says "have a beer" to leave a comment in your lj ^_~

Just think of it as a Jones Root Beer, and you'll be fine? ^_^

And yeah, he is, and these recent examples aren't even coming CLOSE to scratching the surface of his goodness.

Good grief. That's just, well, stupid! And that's so strange, too, since I live within a mile of my high school, and I didn't have to walk (I did, anyway, but that was because of the people on the bus). That's just crazy. I can't belive a school system would condone such a dangerous trek to get to school. Don't they care about the safety of their students? I mean, hello! That's supposed to be a reason for having the buses in the first place! Grrrr...It's just not fair.

I'm glad your dad is doing whatever he can for the family, though. They do deserve better than that.

Your dad's in the newspaper a lot. Not that it makes him less awesome. I bet the next story is going to be about how he BOUGHT a bus and now drives all the kids in his neighborhood to school.

Bureaucracy sucks.
